House rewiring
Period homes with cloth or rubber-insulated wiring brought up to AS/NZS 3000, in stages if needed.
Canterbury is about four kilometres east of our Hawthorn East workshop, usually a ten to fifteen minute run.
Canterbury is one of the most tightly heritage-controlled parts of Melbourne’s inner east, and the housing is grander and older than its neighbours. Both of those facts change how electrical work is done here rather than whether it can be done.
These houses have leadlight, deep cornices, pressed ceilings and joinery that cannot be replaced. A rewire is entirely achievable, but it is planned as an access problem first and a cable problem second. Routes go through roof and subfloor space, and where a wall must be entered it is chosen for where the damage can be made good invisibly. That planning is most of the skill in the job.
Surface conduit on a visible elevation, an air conditioner condenser in the wrong place, or a meter box relocated to a street frontage can all become planning problems in Canterbury. It is worth resolving at the quote stage. We would rather design the run around it than have you discover it later.
The streets here are heavily treed, and many properties still have an overhead service from the street to the house. Branch contact with a service line causes intermittent faults that are maddening to chase from inside the house: lights flickering in wind, equipment resetting for no reason. If the symptom correlates with weather, look up before looking at the board.
Coach houses, studios and garden sheds on these blocks are often fed by old submains that have quietly acquired a load they were never sized for. The distances are long, so voltage drop shows up sooner than people expect.
The retail strip is small, old and busy. The tenancies are compact, the meter arrangements are frequently historical, and the buildings are heritage. Fitout work here needs the supply question answered before the design is signed off, because the options for adding capacity are narrower than in a modern tenancy.
A straight run east along Canterbury Road from our workshop, ten to fifteen minutes outside peak. Same-day attendance is normal for morning calls. For genuine emergencies we aim to be on site within two hours, and the phone is answered 24 hours a day.
We also cover Camberwell, Hawthorn East, Glen Iris.

Ceramic fuses replaced with circuit breakers and safety switches, with capacity left for what you add next.
A written check of the board, the wiring and the safety switches, for a purchase, a rental or peace of mind.
Downlights, pendants and outdoor lighting, replaced or run from scratch.
Dead circuits, tripping safety switches and power points that run warm, traced to the cause.
It should not. The work is routed through roof and subfloor space rather than by chasing walls, and where a wall has to be opened we choose the point where it can be made good invisibly. We walk the route with you before starting.
Very often tree contact with the overhead service line, which is common in Canterbury's treed streets. The symptom correlating with weather is the giveaway. It is not something to leave, because a service line being abraded by a branch eventually fails.
It affects what is visible rather than what is possible. Surface conduit on a street elevation, a relocated meter box or an awkwardly placed condenser can all become planning issues. We design around it, and it is worth raising when you ask for a quote.
The distributor owns the network up to the point of attachment on your property. From there in, it is yours. If a branch is touching the line on the network side, that is a call to your distributor, and we will tell you plainly which side of the boundary the problem sits on.
Yes. The tenancies there are compact and heritage, so the supply question needs answering before a fitout is designed rather than after. We check what the tenancy can carry against the equipment list at the quote stage.
Fastest way to get an answer is the phone. It is answered 24 hours a day, seven days.
