About STL Electrical

STL Electrical is run by Symon Lambert. He has held the electrical contractor’s licence, REC 20101, for 25 years, and he is still the person who turns up to most jobs. That is the reason the Google reviews use his first name rather than the company’s.

What we actually do

Roughly half the work is residential: switchboard upgrades, fault finding, rewiring, hot water, lighting, smoke alarms and, increasingly, EV chargers. The other half is commercial, across offices, retail tenancies, warehouses and strata-managed buildings, including the compliance work that has a schedule attached to it.

We work across Melbourne’s inner east and south-east, from Hawthorn East out through Camberwell, Glen Iris and Malvern, down to Dandenong and along to Mornington, and into the CBD. The phone is answered 24 hours a day because electrical faults do not observe business hours.

How we work

We look before we quote. On anything involving a switchboard, the mains, or wiring of unknown age, a price given over the phone is a guess, and a guess either costs you money or costs us money. Neither is a good start. You get a fixed price before work begins, and the estimate is free.

We tell you when the cheaper option is the right one. If a fault can be isolated tonight and repaired properly on Tuesday at a normal rate, we will say so rather than doing the whole job at an after-hours rate. If the board does not need replacing, we will tell you that too.

Work is completed to AS/NZS 3000, the Australian and New Zealand wiring rules. Where the job is prescribed electrical work, and switchboard and mains alterations usually are, it carries a Certificate of Electrical Safety and an independent inspection by a Licensed Electrical Inspector who does not work for us.

What we will not do

We do not publish a rate card, because the honest number depends on things nobody can see from a website. We do not quote sight unseen on major work. We do not drill into asbestos backing panels. And we do not put a junior on a job and call it supervision.
